The ferry docked late. It is 23:40, the guest is standing outside the door, and you are still in the car with the key in your pocket. Anyone running rooms to let or a small hotel without a 24-hour reception has been there.

Smart locks solve half of the problem: the door opens with a code. The other half is who sets the code, when, and who deletes it afterwards. Bookmatrix.com now does that half on its own.

What self check-in with a smart lock means

Self check-in means the guest gets into the room without anyone waiting for them. They receive a code (PIN) before they arrive, type it on the lock and the door opens. The code works only for the days of their stay.

The catch with most locks is that the code is typed by hand, in the app, for every reservation. With ten reservations a week that is work. With ten a day in summer it cannot be done without mistakes.

How it works with Bookmatrix.com

Bookmatrix.com connects to your TTLock account, the platform many smart-lock brands use. From then on:

  1. A reservation comes in from Booking.com, Airbnb, Expedia, your website or the phone.
  2. A PIN is created: by default the last 4 digits of the guest phone, so it is easy to remember. If the code is already taken, a random one is used.
  3. The PIN is scheduled on the room lock and on every shared entrance: the building door, the gate, the pool. It works from check-in time to check-out time.
  4. The guest gets an email with the code for each door as soon as the PIN is active on the locks.
  5. At check-out the PIN stops working and is removed. The room turns dirty in the housekeeping app.

If the dates change or the guest moves to another room, the old PIN is removed and a new one is set on the right locks. If the reservation is cancelled, the PIN is deleted from all of them. All of this is four automations that we set up for you, and you can see and change them.

Two properties already doing it every day

Eos, Skiathos

Rooms to let on an island, with guests arriving from ferries and flights at every hour. At Eos, 8 rooms and the main entrance have TTLock smart locks, 9 locks in total. Since May 2026, 30 reservations got their PIN automatically, without anyone typing a code.

U boutique Experience, Alexandroupoli

A boutique hotel with self check-in. Before, every code for the room and the entrance was typed by hand in the TTLock app for each stay and deleted afterwards. Today 8 room locks and the entrance are connected to Bookmatrix.com, and since May 2026 249 reservations got their PIN automatically.

More in our case studies.

What you need

We do the connection: we map each lock to its room, mark the shared entrances, and set the check-in and check-out hours and the email the guest receives.

Frequently asked questions

What if a guest books for tonight?

Same-day reservations are sent to the locks at once, so the guest can open the door on arrival.

Can I give staff a code too?

Yes. From the Smart Locks page you add a code with a start and end time, for a cleaner or a technician, and revoke it with one click.

Can I see which codes are active?

Yes. For each lock you see every PIN, whether it is scheduled, active or removed, and which reservation it belongs to.

See the whole feature, with an interactive demo, on the Smart Locks page.
